Joe Freeman and wife Linda Jones are greeted at the White House by Admiral Stephen Rochon.
Mistletoe Meadows is owned by Joe Freeman. As a teenager, he worked on a retail lot that sold Fraser fir Christmas trees near his home in Greensboro, N.C. In 1985, Joe graduated from N.C. State University with a B.S. in Fisheries and Wildlife Sciences and worked for several years with the N.C. 4-H Camping Program before working in Christmas trees full time.
In 1988, Joe began Mistletoe Meadows with one acre of trees in Laurel Springs, N.C. Today, the farm has grown from a one-man operation into a multifaceted business that employs approximately 75 people during the busy Christmas season. Although Mistletoe Meadows remains a small farm by industry standards, it has grown to include a thriving wreath and greenery business, 130 acres in Ashe County, a plantation of Fraser firs in Virginia, and other species grown for wreath greenery in Moore County, N.C.
With Joe’s focus on superior-quality trees and greenery, Mistletoe Meadows farm has won numerous state and national awards through the years. His most prestigious award was being selected National Grand Champion Grower in 2007, the highest honor a tree grower can receive, and personally delivering the official White House Christmas tree to the first lady for the Blue Room.
Although the farm has won many awards, as Joe says, “The heart of my business is families making lifetime memories and celebrating their Christmas with a real tree.”A Few of Our Favorite Images
